• Rename testcase_read_myhunk to testcase_hunk, and testcase_read_anyhunk to testcase_doc_hunk.

  5cf95dcbac Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• run: each full-road case sources testcase.bash by its absolute path, instead of carrying its text in the case's script.

  477bcbbdcb Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• run: set TESTCASE_DIR in every case, on both roads: the test script's directory.

  0bd1c47577 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• examples: todos.sh on several files, tested with testmarktest_rule, which make test runs.

  659f60b19c Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• run: give _testmarktest_relabel's locals its nameref's prefix, so a caller's variable of any name can be relabeled.

  f074f81300 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• run: testmarktest_rule, whose case functions read any hunk and give any outputs, with testcase_* functions.

  e556796862 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• Fix running code from a hunk name in error messages, on bash 4.4 through 5.1.

  f110c869d0 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• tests: move run_case into lib.sh, for a second runner test script to share.

  499e4121d7 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• Merge branch 'high-road' into usable. Bash has been a mistake. The fraction of this branch that has been attempts to make error handling comprehensible beggars belief.

  90280a0b42 warpfork · 2026-10-25

• testmarktest_rule_basic: say what TESTMARK_RAW_ERRORS is for: output of the case's own that the relabeling would rewrite.

  29c582aab1 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• run: relabel bash's errors in time linear in the output, and only when there may be one.

  1c29154087 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• bash-pitfalls: correct where errexit is ignored in child processes; test the case that needs a new bash process.

  de85a85114 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• Merge branch 'error-provenance' into high-road. This has been sanity-defying.

  60745a01d9 warpfork · 2026-10-25

• README: note how bash's own errors appear in case output.

  29dc7c3cab Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• cases report bash's errors as the function's name, not an fd path and phantom line.

  3b20fba208 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• bash-pitfalls: explain the reach of errexit suppression, with measurements.

  93b1f15773 Ximianth · 2026-10-25

• errors about a hunk name its file and annotation line, not the handle; and a mismatch no longer suggests regen.

  0c4d3ffbad Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• docs: line endings and missing hunks stated once, in the README's writing a test; the userguide points there.

  8ab33487b8 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• testmarktest_rule_basic: document that BASH_ENV doesn't reach the case.

  e2e23564a8 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• run: source each function into the case separately, so error line numbers don't depend on the script around them; and unset BASH_ENV.

  b5670a2707 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• run: drop the no-newline marker; the check layer now adds a missing final newline itself.

  edb5960c60 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• check, patch: normalize input as parsing normalizes bodies (CRLF to LF, a final newline added), instead of refusing it.

  dd9793a266 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• docs: userguide for going it alone with the primitives; the README points there.

  f2bd49de52 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• examples: test-todos-alone.sh finds its dir from BASH_SOURCE too.

  394e07b878 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• examples: find the library from BASH_SOURCE rather than $0, which is right even when the file is sourced.

  55a0a7dedb Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• readme: lead with the runner; the primitives follow, under going it alone.

  c290ea86e2 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• examples: test todos.sh with the runner; keep the hand-rolled loop as test-todos-alone.sh.

  8dfec62210 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• run: testmarktest_rule_basic, testmarktest_provide, and testmarktest_run, a table runner for fixture tests.

  e85d9b9d37 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• examples: pick hunks out with a case statement on the name, the shape table-driven testmark tests tend to grow into.

  423732f80f Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• some further opinions on readme and the essense of the pitch

  563bee7ae1 warpfork · 2026-10-24

• examples: todos.sh, its fixtures in todos.md, and a table-driven test that make test runs. And a sizable increase in the readme.

  9a69562881 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• Merge branch 'patch-check': testmark_patch, testmark_write, and testmark_check with TESTMARK_REGEN.

  c972b45c76 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• check: compare a repeated check against the hunk too, so a mismatch can't pass the second time.

  19923c2a6a Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• tests: patch, check, and write under the caller settings test's errexit, ERR trap, nocasematch, and noclobber.

  2063a16c56 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• Check layer: testmark_check compares output to a hunk, or under TESTMARK_REGEN stages it.

  4a4248cccf Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• Patch layer: testmark_patch stages a new body, testmark_write writes it in place.

  af11966ce4 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• tests: move expect_fail and expect_ok into lib.sh, for the patch and check tests to share.

  d30f313568 Ximianth · 2026-10-24

• Merge branch 'bash-hygiene'

  4e822d05d7 warpfork · 2026-10-24

• parse: hide bash's own message when the file can't be opened, so the only output is our prefixed line.

  ee3f738e3a Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• document.bash: point at docs/hacking/bash-pitfalls.md where code relies on its rules.

  764825d0a7 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Replace the library's two =~ matches with globs and parameter expansions.

  8d0fe9cfbc Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• parse: open the file once, and check it's not a directory through that fd.

  23989549e7 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• _testmark_call: run library code under set -u, restoring the caller's setting.

  ecf703ab46 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Merge branch 'docs-hacking2': docs/hacking on bash pitfalls and bash versions.

  1fcf6f35d8 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• attempt documentation for major bash pitfalls. there are many.

  bf37240054 warpfork · 2026-10-23

• Merge branch 'storage-per-handle': per-handle globals, parse into locals and commit once.

  64a113ffaf Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• tests: share one parse_case, in lib.sh, instead of a copy per script.

  3c9f75eb9f Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Trim _testmark_handle's doc: why a handle must be valid is the storage comment's to say.

  736f5b0b6e Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• tests: give each test-api.sh section its own handles.

  d29c0383dc Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Storage comment: say each fact once, and say what hunk names may contain rather than calling them hostile.

  c24db4dd24 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Keep the list of storage kinds in one place, and unset a handle's globals by looping over it.

  8618f82f0e Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Check handles in one function, for parse and readers alike.

  0ad96a7762 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• tests: describe names by what they contain, and caller settings as unusual, not hostile.

  21fc89340d Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• tests: when a script dies, show its last captured stderr before the scratch dir goes.

  1fa208e690 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Storage comments: give the hostile-key rule its reason, and mark where parse commits.

  c28251e29f Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• tests: fail late with a well-formed partial doc, so committing early is caught by the globals check itself.

  57ee9e4527 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Copy a parse's hunks to globals under 'name', leaving 'k' to mean the open hunk.

  aec43e5485 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Store each document in globals named after its handle; parse into locals and commit once.

  0193a638f6 Ximianth · 2026-10-23

• Free a handle's lines when it's forgotten, including a failed parse's.

  6117ccc1a3 Ximianth · 2026-10-23
